Lead Technical Analyst (Platforms and Storage)


Location: Hybrid/Cambridge
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 (DOE)


An exciting opportunity for Lead Technical Analyst with expertise in platforms and storage to join a dynamic team within the Higher Education sector. In this key role, you will be responsible for managing and optimising enterprise data centre environments, ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of storage systems, virtualisation platforms, and support processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the enterprise data centre environment, liaising with providers and managing relationships to ensure smooth operations.

  • Oversee and manage Storage Area Networks (SANs) and fabrics, ensuring high availability, performance, and resilience.

  • Manage system virtualisation in either private or public cloud environments, ensuring scalability and optimal performance.

  • Develop and implement data security and resilience strategies through the deployment of appropriate technologies and configurations.

  • Manage server operating systems, Active Directory, and cloud-based services, ensuring optimal performance.

  • Ensure that all systems comply with relevant security standards, such as ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus.

  • Provide regular updates to senior management, reporting on performance, issues, and areas of improvement.

  • Lead, motivate, and manage a technical team, delivering support to a high-demand, end-user community with varied skill levels.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Extensive experience managing a medium-scale enterprise data centre environment, including provider liaison and management.

  • Significant experience with Storage Area Networks (SANs) ensuring high performance and scalability.

  • DNS management experience, and managing cloud based IP solutions.

  • Practical experience of system virtualisation, both in private and public cloud environments. Experience with Nutanix is preferred. 

  • Proven track record of developing and refining support systems, processes, and procedures for high-demand environments.

  • Understanding of change management and business continuity. 

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft server operating systems, Active Directory, and Microsoft Azure integration.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.

  • Familiarity with data protection and compliance standards.
