We’re delighted to announce our next new office opening in Dallas, Texas, scheduled for October 2018. This move will anchor Austin Fraser deeper in the US market, hot on the heels of our award-winning Austin, Texas office and Denver, at the start of the year.
We’d also like to congratulate Dallas team lead, Alina Brovko, who will relocate from Munich to build the new Dallas team and roll-out our growth plans.  Alina is a brilliant example of the career pathways available at Austin Fraser and our strong ethos of fostering talent from within.
How we evolve on the ground
As the fourth biggest technology market in the US, outside New York, LA and Chicago, and a concentration of established Austin Fraser clients located in the city, Dallas was the obvious choice for our third US office. With its flourishing start-up ecosystem of incubators, tech meet-ups and a strong Fortune 500 presence, it holds real potential for Austin Fraser. With our Austin team just three hours away too, it will allow for deeper collaboration, ensuring our networks and talent pools are harnessed for client success.
As with previous locations, it’s important to us that we are embedded in the local community. Our approach is about adapting and integrating, while staying true to our Austin Fraser DNA. We invest heavily in communities, creating longer-term relationships while developing an exceptional pool as well as new career opportunities internally.
International growth
This past 18 months has seen Austin Fraser double our global locations, with offices in Berlin, Denver and Dallas.  We scale our international teams with home-grown talent, while building a strong local talent pipeline.
As Alina explains “We’re seeing a lot of our clients with hubs across the US so for this market, it makes sense for us to support as many of those as we can, as we extend Austin Fraser’s presence.  Our business is about how we can help our clients grow. Being on hand, to build real connections and relationships really means that we can specialise as well as play an active part in the tech community here.”
Further expansion plans in the UK, Europe and the US are in place and we’ll look forward to sharing these later this year.

What better message for the importance of teamwork than this quote from Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Amsterdam Vallon. Gangs of New York, a Martin Scorcese classic set in mid-19th century New York highlights that no matter how good you are, you’ll never be successful if you try to do it all on your own. Whether you’re the greatest developer, engineer, administrator or executive, there’s a limit to what you can do by yourself.
A team that works well together understands the strengths and weaknesses of its members and skilfully plays to them. A varied team will bring different perspectives and ideas to the table too. Nobody ever rose through the ranks without plenty of good ol’ fashioned hard work. DiCaprio plays Frank Abagnale, Jr., an extremely successful con man who made millions by posing as a pilot, doctor and lawyer. Though we don’t condone his rather unethical approach, obviously, he highlights the importance of a great work ethic in the pursuit of success.
Throughout your career you’ll inevitably experience countless knock-backs and disappointments. The trick here is picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and getting back to work. DiCaprio’s Academy Award struggle is a perfect example of resilience. Rather than giving up, Leo works harder every time, churning out blockbuster performance upon performance. Having been awarded with an Oscar last night, it just goes to show that success isn’t always easy, but it’s particularly sweet when you do eventually get there.

Dicaprio’s portrayal of Jordan Belfort shows one thing: Your career belongs to you and nobody else. Sure, you could sit back and wait for that promotion or opportunity or you could take the bull by the horns and seize it. Be clear in what you want. More than just setting goals, you need to figure out exactly what it is you want and how you can get there. Be clear in your vision and think about the steps you need to take or achieve in order to get there. A clear mission and purpose is what will drive you when times are tough and motivate you to maintain it when the going’s good.

The digital age has revolutionised the way we look for jobs. The rise of tools like email, digital CVs, job boards and social media means that candidates have access to more job vacancies than ever before. With so many methods available, the challenge for candidates is working out which platform is right for them and how they should go about presenting themselves in the best light. 
LinkedIn is one particular platform that has changed the way we look at recruitment. As the professional social networking site of choice for most, we thought it was the perfect starting point for advice on your career development journey.
Initially launched in 2003, LinkedIn quickly gained momentum and is now the third most visited social networking site, only falling behind Facebook and Twitter.  It’s a goldmine of opportunity if used correctly and  with over 400 million users worldwide and two users joining every second, harnessing LinkedIn effectively should be the key to making sure you seize every opportunity available to you.
A picture is worth a thousand words.
Personalise your account with a high quality profile picture and cover photo. Great images will always help draw people to your profile and demonstrate that you’re a serious professional. If you’re a creative, make sure it comes clearly in the media you upload. Perhaps upload a portfolio or examples of previous work. Remember, keep it visual. Your profile is your shop window for potential employers, it’s important to get your personality across.
Whatever you do, always choose appropriate photos. LinkedIn is a professional social network, so selfies with your friends or those pouting photos in front of the mirror shouldn’t make the cut. Never underestimate the power of a first impression.
First impressions are essential. Once you’ve tackled the imagery on your profile, you need to think about the content. Make sure your profile is complete before you begin connecting with important industry professionals. After all, you only get one chance to make a first impression.
Make sure you do your research. Looking at a range of job descriptions for your ideal role will highlight commonly sought after skills and experience that employers are looking for. Once you’ve done this, you can tailor your profile specifically.

Now you’ve created your profile, it’s time to look for some opportunities. A great general rule of thumb is, ‘If you don’t ask, you don’t get’. If there’s not a job publicly advertised then why don’t you search for employees in the company you’d like to join. Connect with them.
Once they’ve accepted your connect (which of course they will, your profile is now awesome), message them directly enquiring about upcoming opportunities that may be in the pipeline. It’s OK if there aren’t any available immediately, they could still offer valuable insight or tips as to how you could get your foot in the door in future.
LinkedIn is all about building relationships. You never know what’s around the corner or when these connections could come in handy. Either way, people admire the use of initiative, so don’t be afraid of being bold. Don’t wait for opportunities to come to you, create your own.
Influence and engage.
Once you’ve gained the attention of your connections, maintain it. Like, share and create engaging and well-informed content that is relevant to your industry. Videos and images are great for drawing an idol scrollers’ attention to your profile which, after all, is the objective.
Join relevant groups too. This is a great way of interacting with wider industry debates and topics, allowing you to demonstrate your market knowledge.
Above all, always remember to remain professional and respectful. Save political rants and emotional statuses for your other social media, or better still, keep them to yourself or your significant other.
